The Bolsa Grant is a fund made up of donations that support the cost of monitoring when families do not have the economic conditions to support it alone or in cases of institutionalized children and young people.

You can apply for a Social Grant through a process that allows us to assess your socio-economic situation. In addition to analyzing this documentation according to previously defined criteria, CADIn’s team will also seek to understand the social situation of your family, so that the decision is as fair as possible.

The application consists of:
• Fill out the Application/Renewal Form, which requests information about the identification and composition of your household and respective income, together with an informed consent for the processing of personal data.
• Deliver your application at CADIn’s reception desk (Cascais, Lisbon or Setúbal), send it by mail or by email (bolsa.social@cadin.net).
• Attend an interview with the social worker, which will be scheduled after receipt of the application and in which the documents proving the household’s income and expenses will be analyzed, which you should bring on that day.

Applications are evaluated according to pre-defined criteria that seek to make the attribution of support fair and equitable, with the aim of benefiting those most in need.

Neurological and mental disorders are a major public health problem in Portugal:

• Affects 10 to 20% of the population between 0 and 18 years of age
• Are the leading cause of disability among the youngest
• 70% of adults with a mental health problem had their first symptoms before age 18

Intervention, especially when started early:

• It helps the child/young person to overcome the difficulties they encounter in their daily lives, whether at school, at home, in the relationship with peers and be able to use their full potential, taking advantage of the greater plasticity of the brain in childhood to achieve better results
• Decreases comorbidities, as there is a relationship between neurodevelopmental disorders and psychiatric disorders that is exacerbated by late diagnosis and intervention in the first one
• Improves the well-being of the child/young person and their family

Neurodevelopmental disorders have a high economic and social cost, both direct and indirect:

• The direct cost of the intervention is high because it is carried out by specialized technicians, it has to be regular and, in most cases, carried out individually
• Public funding is insufficient, so much of the cost of the intervention falls on families
Among the indirect costs is the loss of productivity of both the self and the caregivers.

Families with lower economic resources and institutions for children and young people have great difficulty in guaranteeing the necessary monitoring of their children and young people in their care due to the cost of the intervention.
To ensure that these families have equal access to the support they need, our Social Grant shares the costs of consultations, assessments, and intervention sessions.

The decision to award a Social Grant is independent of the clinical evaluation and is made by a team based on an application submitted by the family and taking into account their economic and social situation.

The support is granted for one school year and includes all consultations, evaluations and therapy sessions that are necessary during this period.
